- Fellowship with Dr. Charles Schepens at the Retina Service of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
- Founded the Medical and Research foundation in Madras in 1978 with an object of practicing quality eye care in ophthalmology ,training and teaching and to pursue research in ophthalmology
- He is a Padma Sri and Padma Bhushan awardee
